My new obsession...
It all started with a project I was doing where I had to 'sift-through' literally thousands of stock photos to find the most exquisite choices to use. I liked the quality and the vast amount of pixels that I had at my disposal and of course, the results achieved. Of course, with having a stock photography account has its drawbacks like cost, selection and not having 'that unique image' for a brand because it could have been used elsewhere...
After much debate and countless hours of research, I decided to go for a Rebel T3i and the kit lenses with an eagerness to start learning. Once I got past the instant gratification that the 'preset modes' offered, I ventured into the manual-mode to learn more about what was going on within the camera and what kind of control I could have over it. After a grasp of that, I started focusing on lighting, composition and depth of field. It wasn't until the summer of 2014 when I got a 50mm prime (a.k.a. the Nifty-Fifty) that everything started to come together.
... and a new 'medium' to play with.
In a few short months, photography has really transformed a lot of things for me and opended-up a series of opportunities that I had only seen before from the outside looking in. I've learned to 'get better in camera' and detoxing myself from thinking I needed Photoshop® to work my images. Certainly it still has it's place in my toolbox but there is something satisfying with using the camera to extract and compose exactly what I am looking to achieve.
Something I did not expect with photography was exactly how personal it is. Unlike many of the design projects I've done before, I cannot recall a 'special moment' or memory while doing it when I view the project. Photos the other hand, are not just snapshots of something I saw, but they are also snapshots of my life, where I was and what I was doing. It is definitely an interesting and unique thing that happened... a 'happy accident' as Bob Ross would say.
